MG MGB Technical - Valance [front & rear]

I intend converting my 1978 rubber bumper GT to bumperless Sebring type valances, front & rear.
Do any of the members have experience on where to purchase high quality valances THAT fit and are the filler peices available for the front park/indicator and rear tail lights.
Also would appreciate info. from members who have carried out such a conversion.

I am in the middle of it now. I think getting pieces that fit without some work is impossible. Mine came from Moss UK some years ago and they will need changing to get them to fit.

As far as I know the front park light pieces aren't available as a replacement part. I ended up getting the pieces cut from some old wings (luckily they don't rust out there) and I trimmed and welded them into my wings. Mine are actually the earlier, closer to the grill ones.

The rear pods that go under the rear lights are available as a patch piece. Moss will have them.

The front and rear metalwork is done on mine. I just need to figure out mounting all the fibreglass now!

Here are some pictures of the mods to the front wings.

I got my years wrong. Mine are the earlier ones which are further out from the grille. The later ones have less gap between them and the grille.

It's a good way to tell if a supposedly original early car has had replacement front wings fitted!

At the moment I am trying to work out the best way to space out the fibreglass front valence from the front of the car. There is a step there so it needs spacing out about an inch.

If you are able to you should fabricate the rear sections under the tail lights yourself. They are not difficult to form - just fix the light assembly to the body and shape the pods accordingly after you measure their vertical lengths from a chrome bumper car.
In Australia they cost A$50 each!

Trevor,

I got mine from Honeybourne Mouldings and they were a perfect fit on my 75GT

The rear below the lights filler pieces are available from MGBHive in the UK.

The method we used to mount the front valence was using a length of wheel arch repair section which is an L section with one side solid and the other serated so it is easily curved to shape.

For the front you will of course have to cut and shut the original rubber bumper mounts and cut back the section in the grill aperture to enable correct fitment of the grill.

The rear is very easy and was just a matter of lining the valence up and bonding and pop rivetting it in place.
